SHOWCASING CULTURE AND CELEBRATING TRADITION BY DEVELOPING A FUN AND ENGAGING PRODUCT.

 
 

In observing that what Portugal had to offer in terms of unique, contemporary, beautifully crafted and world class design keepsakes was virtually non-existent - we realised that there was an enormous opportunity to showcase great Portuguese design and created The Galo Corkscrew.

The Challenge

Inspired by Alessandro Mendini and moving away from the somewhat garishly expected traditional trinkets and recognising that Portugal's cork and wines are sought after world wide, we decided to create a truly world class product based on the national emblem of the rooster, that was functional, desirable and embodied Brand Portugal in a fresh contemporary way. The challenge has been the costs of producing the prototypes and the overall red-tape implications of getting it to market.

The Outcome

The Galo Corkscrew has generated enormous interest and enthusiasm from all sorts of government bodies and investors who are keen to see the corkscrew on every shelf in the country. Currently, the Galo Corkscrew has been recognised as a wonderful showcase of Brand Portugal and The Museum of Corkscrews in Portugal is busy negotiating with various investors and EU funding programmes to get our project off the ground.
